DEPOSIT RETURNS (FOR TENANTS)

It can take up to 6 weeks or more for deposits to be returned. The following guidelines are pointers for ensuring a speedy return of your deposit:
 
 
Inventory
 
Read, understand and agree it’s contents
The inventory clerk will go through it with you
 
 
The Property
 
Move in
Look after the property
Don’t mistreat it
Clean it regularly or use a weekly maid
 
 
The Landlord
 
Keep ‘sweet’
Your relationship has a bearing on the deposit return
 
 
Damages
 
They do happen
Report any promptly
Don’t hide them / save all until the end
 
 
End of Tenancy
 
Inspect the inventory
Replace missing items
Use professional cleaners (preferably after moving out)
 
 
Checkout Inspection
 
Arbiter / Assessor / Inventory Clerk
Report is provided to tenant, landlord and agent
Cost of dilapidations (if any) is apportioned
Deposit is returned
